Balance Assessments

Balance requires controlling the body’s centre of mass over it’s limits of stability and involves maintaining postures, facilitating movement and recovering equilibrium. Balance impairment occurs in up to 75% of people aged 70 years and older and is common in people with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders such as stroke and arthritis. Clinical balance assessment is helpful in identifying whether a balance problem exists and can track progress during rehabilitation and helps determine the effectiveness of intervention.  Through force plate and 3D motion analysis, not only can postural sway be measured accurately but also strategies of balance can be identified thus directing treatment more effectively.
